Pregnancy Photo Shoot

Pregnancy Photo Shoot - Studio Session

When is the best time to book your maternity photo shoot?

I get answer this question a lot!

The answer is when your are ready. Some expecting mums and parents like to capture their pregnancy milestone early any time after 25 weeks. When your bump is just popping and you are still in the fabulous second trimester and are full of energy.

Some mums like wait until bump is in full bloom any time between 30-34 weeks.

Each mummy will feel differently and your beautiful baby bump will grow and pop at different times. So I like to keep in touch with my clients to find out the best time for them.

I photograph maternity session all around Harpenden, St Albans and Hertfordshire either outdoors or in clients homes.

I’ve recently been offering clients to capture their pregnancy portraits in my home studio. The light is simply divine and offers simplistic, modern and classic portraits for your maternity journey.

Get in touch if you would like to have a chat about recording your pregnancy memories.

Ps. for the Month of March, I’m offering a complimentary pregnancy & Maternity session for all newborn shoots booked.

Cosy Baby & Family Photography Session

Simple, timeless & emotive Portraits

Using natural light in the studio creates such soft, gorgeous light to these portraits.

Step into the warmth of family moments captured in time. When you join me for a session, it's not just about the perfectly posed smiles, it's about embracing the snuggles, the kisses, and those beautiful in-between moments that truly paint the picture of your family's love story.

Meet little Luan, just 8 weeks new. His eyes, a mesmerizing shade of blue, twinkled with curiosity and wonder as he interacted with his adoring mum and dad. It's these precious interactions, filled with genuine emotion, that I treasure capturing the most.

Sure, we'll snap a few photos for grandma where everyone's looking at the camera, but it's those candid shots that truly steal the show. The ones where love radiates from every frame.

As I look back on the shoot together, I'm reminded of the magic that unfolds when families come together in front of the lens. It's not just about creating stunning images (although we certainly did!), it's about freezing moments in time that you'll treasure for a lifetime.

Thank you for allowing me to capture the beauty of your family's love story. Here's to many more precious moments shared together.

Winter Maternity Shoot in the Snow. Maternity Photo Shoot Ideas

Embracing the Beauty of Winter on a Maternity Photo Shoot

Talk about a winter wonderland! It’s hard to believe this location is just located next to a small residential road. However, when driving by and seeing the snow clinging to those beautiful trees and I thought it looked like Narnia!

The stunning mum-to-be had the most perfect blue dress that worked so well against the twinkly snow. Plus it was long so mum was able to wear thermals and cosy snow boots to keep warm.

If you are due over the winter months, get in touch to capture some dreamy and beautiful photographs. I’m sure we’ll get some snow this winter.

Baby Tilly Newborn Session

At Home Newborn Photography in Redborune, Hertfordshire

Winter is for snuggling inside with your little loves near the fire, including this sweet little newborn Tilly. It was so fun capturing this adorable family and playing with little Emily.

In-home lifestyle newborn photo sessions are my favorite, little Tilly will get to look back on these some day and see the home where she grew up and how much her older sister was obsessed with her. Reach out a few months before your due date if you’d like to schedule your newborn session.

My Breastfeeding Story

hertfordshire-london-photographer

I wanted to share more about my story.

I start my Beautiful Breastfeeding Photography project when Jack decided to self wean unexpectedly just over a year ago. I had a tricky start with my breastfeeding journey with both Evie and Jack however with the help of Uma and her amazing team @motherandchildsingapore, I was a pro.

I knew I wanted to breastfeeding my babies as soon as I fell pregnant. It felt like the most natural decision to make, however I had no idea it would be so tricky. My journey to falling pregnant with Evie was a long and emotional one so I was determined to be a master at nursing. The first few weeks Evie were really tough, involving syringe feeding, pumping and generally crying a lot. Once we found our flow it was amazing.

I weaned Evie from nursing just before her first birthday based on the advice from our gynae as we knew our journey to conceiving again could take a really long time. It was such a tough decision but I knew I wanted to try for a brother or sister for her too.

With Jack I had put no end date on our nursing journey. I wanted to enjoy the bonding with him for as long as possible. Being a second child I felt aware that we didn't get much alone time so our breastfeeding quiet time was so special. Sadly Jack fell poorly with an ear infection and that caused him to self wean. It happened so fast I was devastated. I kept our routine and kept offering him but he wasn't interested. He decided he only wanted a bottle.

I miss our quiet time together, when he would stare into my eyes and hold my face or play with my nose. I feel like I never got to do the 'last feed' and really prepare for the end. I never got to capture some photographs together (for either babies) apart from the selfies of course. I miss being his everything!

Motherhood Photography - Passion Project

Beautiful Breastfeeding Photography and Motherhood Photography

motherhood-photographer-london-hertfordshire-breastfeeding

I start my ‘beautiful breastfeeding’ project when my son decided to self wean unexpectedly just over 2 year ago. I had a tricky start with my breastfeeding journey with both kids however with the help of an amazing lactation consultant, I was a pro. I loved nursing and it was such an amazing experience and bonding time with my kids. The project has evolved to be more inclusive to a "motherhood project" as I want to capture and encourage more pregnant mama's to capture their glowing mums.

My project is aimed to help mothers captured these incredibly special moments and bond in a natural and candid way. I love to encourage and inspire mums that breastfeeding is tough but beautiful and no matter how long you are able to do it, 1 day, 1 month, 1 year they are amazing!

Baby Photography Hertfordshire

Your baby’s first year will fly by. Before you know it, they’ll be sitting in front of their birthday cake, smiling for the camera.

Capturing the first twelve months with the help of a professional baby photographer gives you unique keepsakes of this very special time.

Today we are celebrating little Austin’s first birthday with a fun outdoor photography shoot. First Birthdays are always so special and a big milestone for most families. Your little one changes from newborn to baby to toddler all within 365 days.

Lots of families book a one year baby photography session with me so that they can capture and record these special memories for the future.

I offer my families the option to book a single baby photography session and focus on one precious age or choose regular photoshoots to document your baby’s story throughout the year.

I hope your year is fulled with exciting adventures, learning new skills and lots of snuggles with mummy.

Words - @jessurlichs_writer The talented author

People sometimes ask of my favourite days.
And I think of you being placed in my arms.
So small and new with those perfect wrinkles.
Those little cries I didn’t yet recognise.
At times I needed holding too, but oh, how I loved holding you.
Never had I felt so complete on empty.
Those slow motion days now harder to glimpse.
You are the sun to my rise,
as I think back to my favourite days.

And then I wasn’t supporting your neck anymore.
You were bouncing round on my hip instead.
Suddenly you were crawling and so was I,
discovering your new view with you and all you would get into.
You wore your personality with pride and as your confidence grew so did mine.
My heart was open and you filled it up.
You are the softness to my edges,
as I think back to my favourite days.

And then you were standing and I was standing a little taller too.
Growing into myself with you.
You were the chaos that gave me life.
As you took your first wobbly step you looked at me.
‘Is This OK’? you asked with your eyes.
‘It’s OK’ I nodded back.
And off you went.
I’d do anything for you.
You are the piece to my puzzle,
as I think back to my favourite days.

And now you’re growing into those bloated cheeks, a little boy before my eyes.
I think of the way your hand fits in mine.
The way you say, “I love you Mummy”.
You are the beat to my heart.
We’re lying on your bedroom floor and you’re soaring your toy car in the air.
“It’s REALLY fast Mummy, it’s my favourite car”
I look at you and tell you it’s my favourite too.
My absolute favourite.

Baby Photography - Harpenden

I spent a wonderful morning down by the Duck Pond in Harpenden, Hertfordshire with this gorgeous mummy and 5 month baby boy a few weeks ago.

It was one of those perfect mornings. The light was stunning, the reflection on the water was crystal clear and the spring colours were simply gorgeous. I had driven pass the pond a few time while searching for an outdoor location for this Motherhood Photography Session. I walked around the pond and saw the natural wild reeds and the ducks in the pond I knew this was the perfect spot.

I find these images so peaceful and calming. A sleeping baby safe and snuggled with his mother. This is the definition of Motherhood.

Harpenden, St Albans and the surroundings towns in Hertfordshire have some stunning locations that are perfect for outdoor photography shoots.

Breastfeeding Photography Hertfordshire

I love to capture the intimate connections of mothers nursing their children. Whether they are newborn babies or toddlers. The love and bond is always so beautiful and striking in the photographs.

Over the past few years the social norms regarding breastfeeding has changed for the better. I think it is very important to celebrate this very beautiful and natural act.

I have recently launched my 'breastfeeding and nursing’ photography sessions. Get in touch to find out more details about these emotional and special photo sessions. Whether you are at the beginning or end of your journey get in touch to find out more.

Outdoor Cake Smash Photo Shoot Hertfordshire

This was the most magical and Pinterest worth photo shoot!

Baby Griffin, was such a good boy during his outdoor cake smash photo shoot. Mummy Molly had the sweetest vision in mind for celebrating and capturing the first year milestone and the results are adorable!!!!!

After seeing the ideas I suggested we try for an outdoor photo shoot. The whimsical teepee, eucalyptus branches along with the texture blankets against the tropical greenery backdrop make for such cute photographs. I ordered the stunning cake for a local bakery.

During the photo shoot, we played some games of peek-a-boo in the teepee and had a little singing session to get Baby Griff comfortable and ‘photo shoot’ ready. He didn’t need much encouragement. His big Sister Berkeley was on hand to help enjoy the cake smashing!

There are many ways to capture your babies first birthday on film, whether you opt for a cake smash photo shoot, a family portrait session or a relaxed shoot at home, these photographs will be treasured for many years!

Happiest of Birthday!

1 Year Old Milestone Photography Session

Celebrating your babies first birthday photos is a big milestone. It’s a time when most parents want to capture their babies and family portraits so they can keep the memories of ‘what they looked like, their personalities, how big and small they were’.

It’s a special time for the parents to record and remember the first 365 days of being parents!

The first year is full of cuteness, magic and cuddles but it’s also a time of sleepless nights, cluster feeding and anxiety. I find the first birthday is often more a celebration for the parents knowing they have survived and made it a whole year with their adorable bundle of joy!

I adore the images we captured from the Brasso’s family photography shoot at home. There bedroom made for the perfect cosy area for cuddles, play and breastfeeding. Little Nina was in the best mood, she had slept well and loved all my silly games, nursery rhymes and snuggles with mummy and daddy. The light was absolutely magical that morning. We were a little worried as we had been having some stormy days with lots of rain but the stars lined up and the sun was out and gorgeous. The results, were these dreamy, whismical and soft light images. The photographs are candid, real and playful.

Happy Birthday little Nina and congratulations mummy and daddy you did it!

Family Photography in Hertfordshire

There are many options for Family Photography in Hertfordshire!

family-photography-in-singapore.jpg

Lots of my clients love outdoor photography sessions. During out pre-consultation call we choose a beautiful backdrop from one of the many locations Hertfordshire has to offer. These are some of the best locations for an outdoor family photo shoot.

Alternatively, having a home family photo shoot is a lovely way to remember where you lived in your images. The photographs are a little more intimate and personal, I love photographing in your children in their bedrooms playing with their toys, jumping on their bed or reading a story. Whether you’re looking to capture newborn photography or you simply want to update the generational family portraits, a home session is the perfect backdrop.

I also adore working in the studio! This is where I feel we can really focus on your family portraits with a simple and classic background. The images are somehow more emotional as you are focusing on the expressions, the cuddles and the love in the images. As a studio photographer, I know how to craft the light to capture those perfect picture images you’ll treasure. Plus you don’t have to tidy your house if you come to the studio, which is a bonus!

Not sure where to hold your next photography session, get in touch and I’ll be happy to talk with you through the options.

Meet the Photographer - Evie Grace Photography

I thought I should introduce myself to those of you that are new to following me. My name is Emily, mummy to Evie Grace and Baby Jack! I set up my business when Jack was still in my tummy (hence I named it after my daughter. Hopefully Jack won’t mind 🤞🏻)

Evie is now 2.5years old and Jack is 7months this week. I love being a mummy and am very blessed to have two rainbow babies. My journey to motherhood was long, emotional and full of ups and downs. But it was all worth it for these two beautiful humans!! I still can’t believe I made them!! I’ve been working in the photography industry for 7 years before deciding it was time to follow my dream and set up on my own business!

Thank you for visiting my site and I hope my photographs provide you some smiles and joy! Hopefully we can meet in person to capture some beautiful portraits together soon once the Circuit Breaker is over. Until then cuddle you loved ones, be kind to yourself and eat all the yummy cake!

Motherhood Moments - Pregnancy and Newborn Photography

Happy Mother’s Day to all you lovely mummies, grannies and aunties!

I got an email the other day and the subject was ‘Mother’s Day isn’t cancelled’ - it got me thinking that just because we will be spending Mother’s day at home this year doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate!

Being a mummy is a full time job and comes with many magical moments. I hope you get to enjoy spending the day with your family, and your loved ones can spoil you in some small way. Whether it be breakfast in bed, a midday nap, yummy lunch or cake and flowers. Enjoy every minute of being treated, you deserve it!

To celebrate, I reached out to some of the lovely mummies I photographed over the last year and asked them what they enjoyed most about being a parent. I hope you like the feature below and do let me know if any of the answers resonate with you.

Mummy Molly, Daughter Berkeley and Baby Griffin.

What is your favourite part of being a mummy?

The feeling of love that goes beyond anything I could have imagined. Even through tough times, the joy and love for and from my kids remains constant and is something you just have to experience as a mom to understand.

Do you have a favourite story book you like to read with your baby?

It’s called “Wherever You Are: My Love Will Find You” by Nancy Tillman. I cry every time I read it.

What is the most challenging part of motherhood?

I think it’s that you’ll be pushed beyond your limits in every way. Your true character is tested. But you also begin to find yourself because of this too. I’ve learned so much about myself since becoming a mom.

If you could go back in time and share one piece of advice to your future self what would it be?

I think it would be to just be in the moment with how things actually are. Before becoming a mom, I had a vision of what it would be like and I had a hard time living up to these imaginary expectations instead of just letting myself and my family be exactly how we are. Now I try to let life flow and it’s a beautiful thing!

What helps you through the day?

All the coffee!! And I have to move my body every day. Sometimes I take the kids, but most times I like to sneak away for even just 20 minutes to walk, run, do a yoga video, etc. I find I’m a much more patient mom and wife when I can release some energy in this way.

Do you work or are you a stay at home mummy?

I’m an elementary teacher. I’ve always loved my job because I get to share my joy for learning with young students while they share with me different perspectives of life and the world. We get to learn alongside each other every day. Kids bring a happiness to the world like no one else can and how lucky am I to be surrounded by that positive energy every day?!

137B8660.jpg

Mummy Charmaine and baby Kian

What is your favourite part of being a mummy?

Breastfeeding. It's something no one else can do for your baby and it's great forced cuddle time especially for my baby who just wants to crawl around and explore the world. I had major issues with breastfeeding at the start with mastitis that developed into a pus abscess that had to be surgically drained, but I'm glad I pushed through that. No one can provide him with the same comfort.

Do you have a favourite story book you like to read with your baby?

Our favourite book right now is The Pout Pout Fish. Kian in his earlier months was a very grumpy baby and we received this book as a gift last Christmas. He just learnt to flip pages, so he's more into flipping than listening to us read the book unfortunately.

What is the most challenging part of motherhood?

Not knowing what's the best thing to do for your baby. It's a constant worry every day over the smallest decisions.

If you could go back in time and share one piece of advice to your future self what would it be?

I don't know if I'd know what to say... They say you never can be fully prepared, and it's completely true. If I went back in time and redid the newborn stage again, I think I'd still be lost.

What helps you through the day?

My husband is a godsend.

Do you work or are you a stay at home mummy?

I used to work as a freelance writer (don't love it but it's pocket money) but it's been hard getting projects because I used to cover events. Pretty much a FTM now

137B8892bw.jpg

Mummy Renee & baby Neve

What is your favourite part of being a mummy?

Watching Neve grow up into her own person and watching her personality take shape.

Do you have a favourite story book you like to read with your baby?

“Why I love my grandma” ... the grandmas are very happy to know it’s Neve’s favourite story book!

What is the most challenging part of motherhood?

Not being too hard on myself

If you could go back in time and share one piece of advice to your future self what would it be?

Be kind to yourself!

What helps you through the day?

Sugar, coffee and Neve’s giggles.

Do you work or are you a stay at home mummy?

I am working and although it can be hard balancing mom life and work life, I like the challenge and constant learning!

Motherhood-photographer-harpenden-stalbans-london-hertfordshire

Mummy Ida,

Aina and baby

Minna

What is your favourite part of being a mummy?

The feeling of amazement each and every day when I look at my children. The things they are capable of and how they develop every single day.

Do you have a favourite story book you like to read with your baby?

For my little baby, the favourite book is "The very hungry caterpillar". She loves turning the pages and get her little fingers involved in the story. My big girl Ainas favourite book right now is "Where the wild things are", she loves the monsters and the feeling of being a little bit scared excites her!

What is the most challenging part of motherhood?

THE NIGHTS! or the feeling of not being there enough for them.

If you could go back in time and share one piece of advice to your future self what would it be?

Even though you are not always around they always know who their mummy is.

What helps you through the day?

A lot of coffee, and looking forward to bedtime snuggles. My older daughters arm around my neck and her telling me she loves me

Do you work or are you a stay at home mummy?

I’m a full time working mum, I love what I do, but i’m torn every day between work and not spending enough time with the kids. But I believe that work makes me happy and a better mum for it.

Baby Photographer London, Hertfordshire

I hope you all had a lovely Easter celebrating with your family.

I captured these cute photographs of my son Jack with his Jellycat bunny’s and baby chick in our home. I love the soft whimsical light and airy feel to the images.

Easter is one of my favourite holidays I love all the fun craft making, planning the egg hunts and eating yummy food. My daughter Evie wasn’t feeling well on the day but she still managed to do our little egg hunt around her room and she found her chocolate egg and card from the Easter Bunny. She was so excited.

I hope you all managed to get some cute photographs of the kids.

Take Care
