Outdoor Family Photographs with a Special Cake Smash Shoot

Baby lying on tummy, wearing a 1st Birthday cute hat and covered in frosting from a cupcake

There’s something truly magical about celebrating a baby’s first birthday – a whole year of love, laughter, and countless milestones. Amelia’s special day was filled with joy, adventure, and of course, cake! We captured these precious moments in a beautiful outdoor setting, surrounded by nature, family, and their beloved pet dog.

The duck pond was the perfect backdrop, we captured beautiful, candid moments of Amelia snuggling and smiling with her parents. The bond between them was evident in every hug, every smile, and every loving glance. These natural, unposed moments always make for the most cherished photos.

A Sweet Cake Smash Celebration

No first birthday photograph shoot is complete without a cake smash! After all the outdoor fun, Amelia was more than ready to dive into the cupcake that her mummy had lovingly made. She explored the texture, tasted the sweetness, and let out the cutest expressions as she smeared frosting everywhere. The sheer joy on her face made for the most adorable pictures – messy, delightful, and absolutely priceless!

Capturing Memories to Treasure

It was a joy to photograph Amelia’s first birthday celebration, filled with laughter, love, and the sweetest moments. These photographs will serve as a beautiful keepsake for years to come, reminding her family of this special day.

Capturing the Beauty of Motherhood: An In-Home Newborn Shoot & Outdoor Maternity Session

There’s something truly special about documenting the journey into motherhood—the quiet, intimate moments at home with a newborn and the radiant anticipation of a maternity session in nature. Recently, I had the privilege of capturing both for a wonderful family, and I wanted to share their beautiful story.

The In-Home Newborn Session: Cozy, Candid, and Full of Love

Welcoming a newborn into the world is such a fleeting, precious time, and an in-home session allows for authentic storytelling in a space filled with love and comfort. This particular session took place in the family’s home, where we embraced the natural light filtering through the nursery window and documented those first tender weeks with their little one.

Mom and Dad snuggled up on the couch with their baby, stealing kisses and soaking in those tiny yawns and stretches. The soft, neutral tones of their home created a timeless feel, and we kept the session relaxed, focusing on genuine interactions rather than posed perfection. There were moments of laughter, quiet reflections, and the deep bond between parents and their newborn—all captured in a way that will forever remind them of these early days.

The Outdoor Maternity Session: Nature’s Glow & Radiance of Motherhood

Before their baby arrived, I also had the chance to photograph this beautiful mum-to-be during an outdoor maternity session. She chose a serene location with open fields and golden light, which made for the perfect backdrop to highlight the beauty of pregnancy.

Dressed in a flowing gown that moved with the gentle breeze, she radiated confidence and grace. We timed the session for golden hour, just before sunset, allowing the warm hues to wrap around her, creating dreamy, ethereal images.

One of my favorite moments was when she paused to cradle her bump, smiling softly as she felt her baby move inside her. There’s something so magical about capturing the strength, anticipation, and love that radiates from a mother as she awaits her little one.

Why These Sessions Matter

Maternity and newborn photography are about more than just taking pictures—they’re about preserving a feeling, a season of life that goes by all too quickly. The in-home newborn session captured the raw, real love of those first few weeks, while the outdoor maternity session celebrated the incredible journey leading up to that moment.

If you’re expecting or have recently welcomed a little one, I would love to help you capture this beautiful chapter in your life. Whether you envision a cozy in-home session or a dreamy outdoor maternity shoot, let’s create timeless images that will bring you back to these moments for years to come.

Get in touch to book your session—I can’t wait to document your story!

Extended Family Photography Session in Hertfordshire

Capturing the Love: A Spring Extended Family Photography Session in St Albans

Photography Session with Grandparents, Cousins, and Siblings

Spring is in the air, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to gather the whole family for a beautiful, joy-filled photography session. As the weather warms up and flowers start to bloom, there’s no better time to capture the love and connection between grandparents, parents, siblings, and cousins. Whether it’s an intimate in-home session or an outdoor adventure, extended family portraits are a treasure that will be cherished for generations to come.

The Beauty of Spring for Family Photography

Spring is one of the best times of the year for a family photo session. The days are getting longer, the sunlight is softer, and nature provides the most beautiful backdrop with fresh greenery and colorful blossoms. The warmer weather also means everyone can dress comfortably, without the need for bulky winter coats. Flowing dresses, soft pastels, and light layers add a timeless touch to your images, making spring the ideal season for capturing those perfect family moments.

Why Extended Family Sessions Are So Special

While we often take plenty of pictures of our immediate family, extended family sessions are a wonderful way to document the relationships that mean the most to us. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all play such a special role in our lives. These sessions bring everyone together in a relaxed, joyful setting to celebrate love, laughter, and family bonds.

Cousins grow up together, creating lifelong friendships. Siblings share memories from childhood into adulthood. Grandparents provide wisdom, warmth, and unconditional love. Capturing these relationships in a single session ensures that you have a keepsake to look back on for years to come.

In-Home Family Photography: Cozy and Personal

There’s something so special about an in-home session for an extended family. Your home is where memories are made—it’s the heart of your family story. An in-home shoot allows for a relaxed, intimate feel, capturing the family in their most natural environment.

We’ll document grandparents reading stories to their grandchildren, siblings laughing together in the kitchen, and the whole family gathered around in a cozy setting. These natural interactions make for the most heartfelt images.

Outdoor Family Photography: Embracing Nature’s Beauty

For those who love fresh air and open spaces, an outdoor family photography session is a fantastic choice. A local park, garden, or even your own backyard can serve as a stunning setting for family portraits. Springtime provides beautiful, golden light and vibrant landscapes that enhance every photo.

Grandparents sitting on a picnic blanket, cousins running around barefoot in the grass, and a full-family group shot with everyone together—these are the moments that tell the story of your family’s love and connection.

The Importance of Photos with Grandparents

If there’s one thing you’ll never regret, it’s taking the time to capture photos with grandparents. They are the pillars of the family, the keepers of family traditions, and the ones who have seen your family grow and evolve. These images become even more meaningful as the years go by, serving as a reminder of the love and wisdom they’ve shared.

A photo of a grandparent holding their grandchild’s hand, giving a warm hug, or simply smiling with their loved ones is something that will be treasured for generations. Including them in a family photography session ensures that their legacy is beautifully preserved.

Book Your Spring Family Session

Spring is the season of new beginnings, making it the perfect time to celebrate your family with a photography session. Whether it’s a cozy in-home shoot or a fun outdoor adventure, an extended family session is a beautiful way to document the love between grandparents, parents, siblings, and cousins.

Don’t wait to capture these special moments—time moves quickly, and the little details of today become the cherished memories of tomorrow. Let’s create beautiful, timeless portraits that your family will hold dear for years to come!

Newborn and Family Photography - Harpenden

Capturing Precious Moments: Newborn and Family Photography

There are few things in life as fleeting and beautiful as the newborn stage. Those tiny fingers curling around yours, the way they fit perfectly in your arms, and the purest expressions of love shared among your family. As a newborn photographer in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, I know how quickly these moments pass, and that’s why I’m here to help you hold onto them forever.

The Magic of Natural Light

One of the secrets to creating stunning, timeless photographs is understanding light. Natural light is my favorite tool, as it creates a soft, dreamy quality that flatters every subject. Morning and early evening provide the best light, often referred to as the “golden hours.” For newborn sessions, a sunny spot near a window becomes a perfect little studio. Families cuddled together under dappled sunlight or soft shade create warm, authentic images that feel alive with emotion.

When you book your session, we’ll discuss the best time of day and location to ensure your photos reflect your family’s unique connection.

When to Book Your Session

Timing is everything when it comes to newborn photography. The ideal window is within the first two weeks after birth. During this time, babies are still in their sleepy, curled-up phase, making it easier to capture those sweet, peaceful poses. However, it’s never too late to celebrate your little one’s arrival! Lifestyle family sessions are perfect for older babies and showcase the natural bond your family shares.

For family sessions, consider booking around key milestones, like your baby’s first birthday or a special holiday. These moments not only mark a point in time but also serve as a celebration of your family’s journey.

Why Family Sessions Matter

Life moves fast, especially when you’re raising a family. It’s easy to let the days blur together, filled with nappies, bedtime routines, and endless cuddles. That’s why taking a moment to step back and document your family as they are today is so important. Photographs become a legacy for your children—a way for them to see the love, laughter, and stories of their early years.

Imagine your child flipping through an album decades from now, seeing how you held them, how their sibling kissed their forehead, or how they were the center of your world. Those images are priceless.

Tips for a Successful Session

Here are a few tips to make your session smooth and enjoyable:

  1. Keep it Simple: Neutral and soft-toned clothing works best. Avoid bold patterns or large logos, as they can distract from the connection in the photos.

  2. Prepare Ahead: For newborns, having extra nappies, a favorite blanket, and time for feeding breaks can help keep everyone relaxed.

  3. Let the Kids Be Kids: Don’t stress if your little ones don’t want to pose. Candid moments of laughter, curiosity, and even those cheeky expressions often make the most cherished images.

  4. Relax and Enjoy: Your family’s love is all that matters. I’ll guide you through poses and moments naturally, so there’s no need to worry about perfection.

Let’s Create Something Beautiful Together

Booking a newborn or family photography session is more than just taking pictures. It’s about celebrating your journey and capturing the essence of your family’s story. Whether it’s those early newborn days or the laughter of siblings chasing each other in a sunlit field, these are the moments you’ll treasure forever.

If you’re looking for a newborn photographer in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, or a family photographer in Hertfordshire, get in touch to book your session. I also offer new baby photographs at home in Harpenden and serve the surrounding areas, including St Albans. Simple, timeless & emotive Portraits

Using natural light in the studio creates such soft, gorgeous light to these portraits.

Step into the warmth of family moments captured in time. When you join me for a session, it's not just about the perfectly posed smiles, it's about embracing the snuggles, the kisses, and those beautiful in-between moments that truly paint the picture of your family's love story.

Meet little Luan, just 8 weeks new. His eyes, a mesmerizing shade of blue, twinkled with curiosity and wonder as he interacted with his adoring mum and dad. It's these precious interactions, filled with genuine emotion, that I treasure capturing the most.

Sure, we'll snap a few photos for grandma where everyone's looking at the camera, but it's those candid shots that truly steal the show. The ones where love radiates from every frame.

As I look back on the shoot together, I'm reminded of the magic that unfolds when families come together in front of the lens. It's not just about creating stunning images (although we certainly did!), it's about freezing moments in time that you'll treasure for a lifetime.

Thank you for allowing me to capture the beauty of your family's love story. Here's to many more precious moments shared together.

Winter Maternity Shoot in the Snow. Maternity Photo Shoot Ideas

Embracing the Beauty of Winter on a Maternity Photo Shoot

Talk about a winter wonderland! It’s hard to believe this location is just located next to a small residential road. However, when driving by and seeing the snow clinging to those beautiful trees and I thought it looked like Narnia!

The stunning mum-to-be had the most perfect blue dress that worked so well against the twinkly snow. Plus it was long so mum was able to wear thermals and cosy snow boots to keep warm.

If you are due over the winter months, get in touch to capture some dreamy and beautiful photographs. I’m sure we’ll get some snow this winter.

My Breastfeeding Story

hertfordshire-london-photographer

I wanted to share more about my story.

I start my Beautiful Breastfeeding Photography project when Jack decided to self wean unexpectedly just over a year ago. I had a tricky start with my breastfeeding journey with both Evie and Jack however with the help of Uma and her amazing team @motherandchildsingapore, I was a pro.

I knew I wanted to breastfeeding my babies as soon as I fell pregnant. It felt like the most natural decision to make, however I had no idea it would be so tricky. My journey to falling pregnant with Evie was a long and emotional one so I was determined to be a master at nursing. The first few weeks Evie were really tough, involving syringe feeding, pumping and generally crying a lot. Once we found our flow it was amazing.

I weaned Evie from nursing just before her first birthday based on the advice from our gynae as we knew our journey to conceiving again could take a really long time. It was such a tough decision but I knew I wanted to try for a brother or sister for her too.

With Jack I had put no end date on our nursing journey. I wanted to enjoy the bonding with him for as long as possible. Being a second child I felt aware that we didn't get much alone time so our breastfeeding quiet time was so special. Sadly Jack fell poorly with an ear infection and that caused him to self wean. It happened so fast I was devastated. I kept our routine and kept offering him but he wasn't interested. He decided he only wanted a bottle.

I miss our quiet time together, when he would stare into my eyes and hold my face or play with my nose. I feel like I never got to do the 'last feed' and really prepare for the end. I never got to capture some photographs together (for either babies) apart from the selfies of course. I miss being his everything!

Motherhood Photography - Passion Project

Beautiful Breastfeeding Photography and Motherhood Photography

motherhood-photographer-london-hertfordshire-breastfeeding

I start my ‘beautiful breastfeeding’ project when my son decided to self wean unexpectedly just over 2 year ago. I had a tricky start with my breastfeeding journey with both kids however with the help of an amazing lactation consultant, I was a pro. I loved nursing and it was such an amazing experience and bonding time with my kids. The project has evolved to be more inclusive to a "motherhood project" as I want to capture and encourage more pregnant mama's to capture their glowing mums.

My project is aimed to help mothers captured these incredibly special moments and bond in a natural and candid way. I love to encourage and inspire mums that breastfeeding is tough but beautiful and no matter how long you are able to do it, 1 day, 1 month, 1 year they are amazing!

Words - @jessurlichs_writer The talented author

People sometimes ask of my favourite days.
And I think of you being placed in my arms.
So small and new with those perfect wrinkles.
Those little cries I didn’t yet recognise.
At times I needed holding too, but oh, how I loved holding you.
Never had I felt so complete on empty.
Those slow motion days now harder to glimpse.
You are the sun to my rise,
as I think back to my favourite days.

And then I wasn’t supporting your neck anymore.
You were bouncing round on my hip instead.
Suddenly you were crawling and so was I,
discovering your new view with you and all you would get into.
You wore your personality with pride and as your confidence grew so did mine.
My heart was open and you filled it up.
You are the softness to my edges,
as I think back to my favourite days.

And then you were standing and I was standing a little taller too.
Growing into myself with you.
You were the chaos that gave me life.
As you took your first wobbly step you looked at me.
‘Is This OK’? you asked with your eyes.
‘It’s OK’ I nodded back.
And off you went.
I’d do anything for you.
You are the piece to my puzzle,
as I think back to my favourite days.

And now you’re growing into those bloated cheeks, a little boy before my eyes.
I think of the way your hand fits in mine.
The way you say, “I love you Mummy”.
You are the beat to my heart.
We’re lying on your bedroom floor and you’re soaring your toy car in the air.
“It’s REALLY fast Mummy, it’s my favourite car”
I look at you and tell you it’s my favourite too.
My absolute favourite.

Baby Photography - Harpenden

I spent a wonderful morning down by the Duck Pond in Harpenden, Hertfordshire with this gorgeous mummy and 5 month baby boy a few weeks ago.

It was one of those perfect mornings. The light was stunning, the reflection on the water was crystal clear and the spring colours were simply gorgeous. I had driven pass the pond a few time while searching for an outdoor location for this Motherhood Photography Session. I walked around the pond and saw the natural wild reeds and the ducks in the pond I knew this was the perfect spot.

I find these images so peaceful and calming. A sleeping baby safe and snuggled with his mother. This is the definition of Motherhood.

Harpenden, St Albans and the surroundings towns in Hertfordshire have some stunning locations that are perfect for outdoor photography shoots.

Outdoor Cake Smash Photo Shoot Hertfordshire

This was the most magical and Pinterest worth photo shoot!

Baby Griffin, was such a good boy during his outdoor cake smash photo shoot. Mummy Molly had the sweetest vision in mind for celebrating and capturing the first year milestone and the results are adorable!!!!!

After seeing the ideas I suggested we try for an outdoor photo shoot. The whimsical teepee, eucalyptus branches along with the texture blankets against the tropical greenery backdrop make for such cute photographs. I ordered the stunning cake for a local bakery.

During the photo shoot, we played some games of peek-a-boo in the teepee and had a little singing session to get Baby Griff comfortable and ‘photo shoot’ ready. He didn’t need much encouragement. His big Sister Berkeley was on hand to help enjoy the cake smashing!

There are many ways to capture your babies first birthday on film, whether you opt for a cake smash photo shoot, a family portrait session or a relaxed shoot at home, these photographs will be treasured for many years!

Happiest of Birthday!

1 Year Old Milestone Photography Session

Celebrating your babies first birthday photos is a big milestone. It’s a time when most parents want to capture their babies and family portraits so they can keep the memories of ‘what they looked like, their personalities, how big and small they were’.

It’s a special time for the parents to record and remember the first 365 days of being parents!

The first year is full of cuteness, magic and cuddles but it’s also a time of sleepless nights, cluster feeding and anxiety. I find the first birthday is often more a celebration for the parents knowing they have survived and made it a whole year with their adorable bundle of joy!

I adore the images we captured from the Brasso’s family photography shoot at home. There bedroom made for the perfect cosy area for cuddles, play and breastfeeding. Little Nina was in the best mood, she had slept well and loved all my silly games, nursery rhymes and snuggles with mummy and daddy. The light was absolutely magical that morning. We were a little worried as we had been having some stormy days with lots of rain but the stars lined up and the sun was out and gorgeous. The results, were these dreamy, whismical and soft light images. The photographs are candid, real and playful.

Happy Birthday little Nina and congratulations mummy and daddy you did it!

Family Photography in Hertfordshire

There are many options for Family Photography in Hertfordshire!

family-photography-in-singapore.jpg

Lots of my clients love outdoor photography sessions. During out pre-consultation call we choose a beautiful backdrop from one of the many locations Hertfordshire has to offer. These are some of the best locations for an outdoor family photo shoot.

Alternatively, having a home family photo shoot is a lovely way to remember where you lived in your images. The photographs are a little more intimate and personal, I love photographing in your children in their bedrooms playing with their toys, jumping on their bed or reading a story. Whether you’re looking to capture newborn photography or you simply want to update the generational family portraits, a home session is the perfect backdrop.

I also adore working in the studio! This is where I feel we can really focus on your family portraits with a simple and classic background. The images are somehow more emotional as you are focusing on the expressions, the cuddles and the love in the images. As a studio photographer, I know how to craft the light to capture those perfect picture images you’ll treasure. Plus you don’t have to tidy your house if you come to the studio, which is a bonus!

Not sure where to hold your next photography session, get in touch and I’ll be happy to talk with you through the options.

Meet the Photographer - Evie Grace Photography

I thought I should introduce myself to those of you that are new to following me. My name is Emily, mummy to Evie Grace and Baby Jack! I set up my business when Jack was still in my tummy (hence I named it after my daughter. Hopefully Jack won’t mind 🤞🏻)

Evie is now 2.5years old and Jack is 7months this week. I love being a mummy and am very blessed to have two rainbow babies. My journey to motherhood was long, emotional and full of ups and downs. But it was all worth it for these two beautiful humans!! I still can’t believe I made them!! I’ve been working in the photography industry for 7 years before deciding it was time to follow my dream and set up on my own business!

Thank you for visiting my site and I hope my photographs provide you some smiles and joy! Hopefully we can meet in person to capture some beautiful portraits together soon once the Circuit Breaker is over. Until then cuddle you loved ones, be kind to yourself and eat all the yummy cake!
